It just seems wrong that a company named altec lansing refers to super realistic sound...deep...rich bass with what they are selling. I don't really have anything against the company...just sounding off.
OTOH I noticed the A7 is up again? Wasn't it down for a while? 5800 clams.

Still ticked off:
Experience a room filled with sound, not speakers.

Steve,
I don't know what your peeved about. After reading the description and seeing the pictures, I'm thinking about selling my "old" stuff and buying a set. Twelve micro drivers! I'm just slightly confused about the "shingle speaker". I wonder how loud it goes?

Take a deep breath and relax. Your here now and no one will ever take your horns away again.
I learned at a young age that there's nothing like the sound of a horn system. I always compared everything to the sound of A-7's and A-4's. If it didn't sound like the "Altec Sound", I didn't buy. Which explains why I have a bunch of Altec speakers.
I just don't want to know how much money you spent over the years.

"Fill your room with sound, not speakers"!
Sounds like they hired the Bose PR firm.
I drive right past Altec Lansing Technologies every week heading for the grocery store and keep saying I should stop in but never do.
I'm affraid they would toss me right out unless I prepared myself and arrive properly medicated.
Now you went and did it Steve, I have to go and see if they even make any part of the new A7s there. I know GPA provides the drivers and possibly the horns but don't know where the cabinets are made or if any of the assembly is done here in Milford, PA.
I'd be willing to bet they don't even have a sound room to listen in but can tell you the building is gigantic and they seem to employ a decent local work force. From that perspective I have to cut them a bit of slack and I also can't completely despise this namesake company for trying to change with the times.
When we here step out of this green room and into the living rooms of our neighbors and relatives it becomes pretty clear that it is us who are refusing the high technology of today and opting to remain in a vintage world of audio.
It is a pretty sad reality that what made Altec great is probably what also caused their demise.
Guys like us who are still listening and loving 30-40 year old speakers don't do much for a companies bottom line!

Note it says "custom made to order" on the A-7.
AFAIK they had NOS components and others made by Bill, I am sure they subcontract the cabinets. They may have somebody who assembles them.
I doubt they make anything, they did have the crossover built as I recall but subcontracted it to a Chinese Mfr.

Thats exactly what I expect to be the case OG and probably the biggest reason I have never stopped in there.
It does P me off they even use the Altec name but thats an entire other discussion.
I would love the opportunity to inspect one of these "new, baltic birch cabinets made from the original design drawings".
At $11,600 for a pair, they ought to be super nice boxes.
